Rehlko Generators with ECO PASSPORT

The document verified by an independent institution provides full visibility on the environmental impact throughout the entire life cycle of Rehlko generators.

Product Description

Rehlko, formerly Kohler Energy, has published the first certified environmental declaration for a genset in critical application markets, providing customers with information about the environmental impact of KD Series™ products over their entire life cycle. The document, based on concrete data, supports more responsible purchasing decisions and helps end users implement strategies to reduce carbon emissions in the transition to net zero.

Certified Range
The environmental declaration – in the form of a PEP ecopassport® – was initially issued for the KD3750-F generator as a reference product, but the baseline data will be extrapolated to calculate the environmental impact of other generators in the K175 Series family, from KD2000 to KD4500. A PEP is a type III environmental declaration according to ISO 14025, providing comprehensive information about the environmental impact at each stage of a product’s life cycle.
KD Series™ generators are designed to deliver critical power in applications such as data centers, hospitals, and water treatment facilities. Although the current PEP ecopassport® only covers generators manufactured in France, Rehlko plans to introduce similar environmental declarations for products manufactured in the United States.

Environmental Declaration
The environmental declaration provides detailed data on the environmental impact of activities such as raw material extraction, manufacturing, distribution, installation, use, and end of life of KD Series™ generators. The life cycle assessment methodology involved collaboration between Rehlko and key suppliers to collect information on energy consumption, emissions, resource use, and other relevant parameters. The environmental declaration was then verified by independent third parties to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
The life cycle analysis generated some revealing insights. It showed that a KD3750-F generator with an internal combustion engine is made of over 94% recyclable metals and does not contain rare materials such as lithium, nickel, manganese, or cobalt (used in electric batteries). The analysis also highlighted the environmental benefit of using renewable fuels such as HVO.

Concrete Measures for a Sustainable Future
The publication of the first environmental declaration is part of Rehlko’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes improving generator efficiency while investing in zero-emission technologies. For example, Rehlko’s entire range of diesel generators for critical missions is compatible with HVO, which is made entirely from bio-based raw materials, including vegetable oils, waste oils, and animal fats. When comparing the life cycles from fossil fuel production to electricity generation between conventional diesel and renewable fuels, HVO can help reduce carbon emissions by up to 90% without requiring modifications.
Meanwhile, Rehlko has also launched Conscious Care™, a new genset maintenance program that includes multiple service protocols to help customers reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their carbon footprint. Additionally, Rehlko has introduced its first hydrogen-based fuel cell power system, a 100 kW solid electrolyte membrane fuel cell using green hydrogen for backup applications and peak shaving.
