The new series of KSD engines brings back the Diesel of The Year award to Kohler.
The prestigious Diesel of The Year award returns to Kohler for the third time in the last decade. In 2022, the KSD 1403TCA engine is the model in the Kohler range that has won this award. In the past, Kohler has previously won the Diesel of The Year in 2012 and 2015, with the KDI 2504TCR and KDI 3404TCR SCR engines.
Awarded by one of the most prestigious specialized magazines in Europe since 1986, the award is won every year by the most innovative diesel engine. This year, Kohler is the manufacturer that managed to win the Diesel of the Year 2022, a moment celebrated with a ceremony in the museum at its historic headquarters in Reggio Emilia, in the gallery that exhibits some of the engines that have marked the company’s history.
A new series of engines
The award-winning engine is part of the new KSD (Kohler Small Displacement) engine series, designed to adapt to all geographical areas, comply with all regulations worldwide, and be compatible with all types of machinery.
The KSD series is the result of a market and customer-oriented approach. The engine is simple because it can be easily integrated with the increasingly complex electronic systems of industrial machinery, which are constantly evolving. It is advanced because it allows different customizations for all work cycles, providing the possibility of data exchange with a limited number of physical connections. It is versatile, being adaptable to machines without the need for modifications or redesigns.
The 1403TCA engine (Turbo Common Rail with Aftercooler) is one of the three engines in the KSD range, which also includes the 1403 Turbo Common Rail and 1403 Natural Aspirated.
This version boasts a maximum torque of 120 Nm at 1400 rpm, a competitive displacement-torque ratio with engines of the same displacement but with powers between 30 and 42 kW and requiring post-production modifications. The engine under 19 kW complies with current global emissions regulations: EU Stage V, USA Tier 4 Final, and, by the end of this year, China Stage IV. Consumption is reduced through engine speed optimization and hydraulic system control. Service intervals are maximized, and the total cost of ownership is low, thanks to intelligent maintenance and diagnostic functions.
